Ambassador Carla Sands, a former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands, and the current energy policy leader at the America First Policy Institute, asserted that the world is confronting the most severe energy crisis in contemporary history. She attributed this crisis to excessive reliance on renewable energy sources, restrictive government regulations, ESG-driven capital constraints, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Sands emphasized her efforts to oppose the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and cautioned against dependence on adversarial energy suppliers. As the United States stands as the world’s leading producer of oil, gas, and energy technology, Sands advocated for expanded domestic production of fossil fuels and nuclear power. She also proposed streamlined regulations and investment in advanced technologies such as carbon capture and small modular reactors. Furthermore, Sands criticized global climate policies for undermining Western industrial strength while China expands coal production. She urged comprehensive energy reform to foster affordable, reliable energy, secure critical mineral supply chains, strengthen commercial diplomacy, and prioritize “human flourishing” through energy abundance and economic growth.
